Belize's Toledo and the Deep South
Toledo and the Deep South
“Holy Toledo, this place is remarkable,” probably won’t audibly come from your lips as you step on the lush soils of this breathtaking region…but you certainly will be thinking it. For ages, ill maintained roads, spotty communications and the country’s highest annual rainfall, removed Belize’s southernmost region from travelers to do lists.
However, being that the conditions have improved tremendously in the recent years, added to the fact that Toledo is the only part of Belize that boasts a genuine rainforest, in which it conceals a plethora of wildlife including jaguars, margays and tapirs, Toledo and Belize’s Deep South is becoming a superb highlight of the Belize exploration. Discover the intriguing Mayan sites of Pusilha and Uxbenka where archaeologists work feverishly to uncover what likely lies below the surface, or venture to the surrounding villages where people live as they have for centuries.
