Brazil's Fernando de Noronha

Fernando de Noronha

Part of the Mid Atlantic Ridge, an underwater volcanic mountain chain more than 15000km long, Fernando de Noronha encompasses 21 islands 322km off the coast of Recife. Boasting spectacular beauty and diverse underwater life, fierce regulations have been enforced to protect Fernando de Noronha’s dynamic ecology.

The main island is a spot of mountainous, volcanic land ringed by beaches and crystal clear waters which prove perfect for swimming, snorkeling and diving. This is the only inhabited island, and draws numerous surfers each summer with its spectacular waves. Below the waters, find intriguing shipwrecks to explore, as well as turtles, stingrays and 14 species of sharks. Hike the well maintained trails, or trek to the fortress ruins on horse back. Throughout the archipelago, find dozens of isolated beaches where hundreds of seabirds alight.
