Tortuguero National Park and the Osa Peninsula are located in two of Costa Rica’s most remote destinations. As a result, the nature of their locations allows for travelers to explore the vast jungle, rainforests, swamps, and ocean. The lush vegetation and rainforest provides wildlife watching of toucans, sloths, macaws, and turtles to name a few. Tortuguero National Park and the Osa Peninsula are two remarkable destinations for eco-adventure and will truly connect you with nature.

The journey to Tortuguero begins via a combination of land and boat transportation to Tortuguero National Park which has 11 ecological habitats, from high rainforest to herbaceous marsh communities. Within the park, a narrow lagoon connects to the sea at one end and fed by a river at the other, which parallels the beach for its full 35-km length. Back of the lagoon is a coastal rainforest threaded by an infinite maze of serpentine channels and streams fed by rivers flowing from the central mountain ranges and by the rains that fall in the area. On the periphery of the forest lies a complex of swamps. Take an opportunity to appreciate wildlife on your boat rides along the Tortuguero canals. Your natural guide will help point out different species of birds, reptiles, and mammals. You will also visit the town of Tortuguero to learn about dedicated conservation efforts for marine life. The highlights to experience a fascinating natural event known as turtle nesting. Watch as the Green Turtle swims ashore to dig a hole and lays approximately 100 eggs. After the eggs have been laid, the Green Turtle will cover the hole and swim back into the ocean. Later in the season, the baby turtles will hatch and emerge from their eggs. This is the beginning of their journey into the ocean.

Day 4 – 7 | The Osa Peninsula
A flight via San Jose brings you to Golfito where you will be greeted by the staff from El Remanso and transfer to your hotel. The Osa Peninsula is well known as one of the world’s most pristine and biodiverse rainforests. Enjoy a thorough discovery of the rainforest and its wildlife with included activities described here. Witness the hidden life of the rainforest canopy at eye level! In our Zip Line Canopy Observation activity, you will be able to see the spectacle of the jungle waking up early in the morning, literally from a bird’s eye view! On guided nature hikes, you get the best introduction to this lush and vibrant rainforest. You will have a skillful jungle lover spot animals for you, learn what to look for and understand how everything works together. As you take in all the breathtaking sights and sounds and stand quietly as the forest comes alive around you, just make sure your camera is on and that your mind is alert! And as the sun goes down, the night hike allows you to step into the other side of the rainforest, showing you all that comes to life when we all go to sleep! With the help of a guide, you will have a newfound appreciation of the jungle! The darker the night, the sharper the senses: enormous secular trees show their true size, small animals that go unnoticed during the day will suddenly make an appearance, and wildlife that is active during the day will be tucked in a hollow log or balanced on a branch somewhere as they let themselves be seen in their most vulnerable state. The Osa Peninsula is well known as one of the world’s best birding destinations. A bird watching tour takes you to a very interesting spot where 4 different ecosystems meet: a beautiful river creek, pristine rainforest, pasture land and the ocean, making it an ideal place for bird watching because of the merge of ambiance! The Dolphin Watching tour brings you close to these incredible animals in the Golfo Dulce and is one of the favorites of our guests. The “sweet gulf” or Golfo Dulce is one of 4 tropical fjords around the world and is home to a large variety of wildlife, including dolphins, whales (from August to November) rays, whale sharks and sea turtles.
