Sacred Valley of the Incas

Situated within just a couple of hours of Cusco and heading towards Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley of the Incas was once the agricultural food bowl of the Inca.

The fertile plain is perfect for the cultivation of Inca staples: maize and potatoes.

Today, you will find the region an eclectic mix of market towns, impressive ruins, and a patchwork of rural land flanked by the mighty Andes.

With its Quechua village festivals; famous Pisac market; colonial churches; archaeological remains of towns Urubamba and Ollantaytambo; salt mines of Maras, plus many opportunities for adventure sports like trekking, whitewater rafting in the Urubamba River, or horseback riding, there are plenty of reasons to head out into the Sacred Valley for a day or more.
