Day 2: BOGOTA

Pedal your way around the Colombian capitol city

Begin by riding through the city center, and roam through the vivid and enchanting neighborhood of La Candelaria. Being the oldest neighborhood in the capital, you will be able to see the contrast between the colorful colonial houses and the vibrant urban street art. You will have the chance of seeing this closer at Chorro de Quevedo, where you will make a short stop to have a better comprehension of Colombia’s history.

Continue your ride until you reach the historical epicenter of the city, the Plaza de Bolivar. Here you will learn more about the square’s history and current affairs. Next, you will ride through the Séptima Avenue, which is one of the main avenues in Bogotá, available only for pedestrians and cyclists. After this, you will make a stop at Parque Nacional to try a refreshing salpicón (fruit beverage) prepared with a mix of tropical fruits.

Head to Teusaquillo, a neighborhood that was considered one of the most modern and elegant neighborhood(s) in the 1930’s. You will observe its uncommon architecture that includes English Victorian, art deco and modernist houses. The final stop of the day will be at a local café, where you will experience the last part of the coffee process, which is the roasting. You will learn why Colombian coffee has its deserved fame by trying different coffees prepared by a specialized barista.

Venture out for a full day of exploration in the Cocora Valley, Salento and Filandia

The Cocora Valley (Valle de Cocora) is a postcard version of rural Colombia, with lush rolling hills, mist-capped mountains, and tall, slender palm trees. Tucked into foothills at the heart of the country’s UNESCO-listed “Coffee Cultural Landscape,” the serene valley makes a worthy detour from nearby Salento.

Explore the Cocora Valley by hiking or riding a horse along the valley’s well-marked, circular trail. Along the way, lookout points offer great views of the valley’s Palmas de Cera — the world’s highest wax palms, which grow up to 200 feet (60 meters) tall — and the hilltop cloud forests harbor a huge variety of tropical birds and butterflies.

Visit the charming town of Salento and equally adorable Filandia, before returning to your hotel.

  • Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch Today
Day 6: ARMENIA

Embark on a Bamboo Rafting Adventure on La Vieja River

Board a 4×4 vehicle that will take you down to the river edge to start your adventure. The raft will be slowly navigated down the river, giving you plenty of time to spot the local wildlife, which includes white, blue, and black herons, hawks, parrots, ant-eaters, armadillos, and a great variety of beautiful fauns. After the tour, you will enjoy a picnic lunch by the river.

Day 8: CARTAGENA

Head out to wander the cobblestone streets of Cartagena's colorful historic center

Sample delicious local favorites during your foodie experience. Enjoy a fun and exciting private salsa lesson in a colonial mansion.

Immerse yourself in Cartagena’s local history and culture, starting in Bolivar Park, shaded by large trees and with four fountains, the park has a statue of the great Liberator at the center. Around the square is the Gold Museum, which exhibits a fine collection of archeological objects dating back to the pre-Hispanic period; and the Inquisition Palace, recognized for its large baroque style door. The Inquisition held its meetings here and it was also the prison and torture chambers of presumed heretics, opponents of the Catholic Church.

Cartagena’s vibrant historic center hosts a huge variety of cuisine, combining Spanish flavors with African influences brought across by the slaves and migrants of 19th century. Locals have taken over this culinary tradition and culinary artisans are found throughout the streets of Cartagena. You will stop at several different establishments to sample the local fair. In addition, you will learn about Cartagena’s typical food by tasting 15 different types of food, all prepared by local cooks in different places along the streets.

Experience the vibrant culture of Cartagena during a private salsa lesson in a colonial mansion. Have fun learning the basic steps alongside your instructor!
