Head to the local ferry terminal and take a scenic trip across the Rio de la Plata. Arrive in Uruguay and begin your exploration with a stroll through Colonia. Wander through the city’s historic cobblestone streets and take in gorgeous colonial mansions and unleveled Portuguese houses. Follow the city’s colorful architecture downtown and discover the Old City where you can find historical landmarks like the Porton de Campo – the City Gate and La Puerta de la Ciudadela.
Taste the spirit of Uruguay with three remarkable wineries.
Visit the Cordano family vineyard in a restored almacén and sample their artisanal wines. Another local family-run winery, El Legardo, comes from the legacy of Bernardo Mazurca Sr. and offers a tasting of their exclusive wines. Last but not least, on the edges of Carmelo, is Narbona winery, where varieties of Pinot Noir and Tannat are grown under the supervision of the consultant oenologist Michel Rolland. For dinner enter the culinary world of chef Elsa Manelphe at Posada Campotinto and enjoy a spread of local favorites paired with regional wines.
Spend the day at a local estancia in the Uruguayan countryside.
