Day 1: ARRIVE SANTIAGO

Welcome to Chile!

Your Signature Luxury Journey begins with a stay in Santiago.

Discover Chile’s capitol brimming with history and culture, considered one of South America’s most modern metropolitan areas. Drive around Santa Lucia Hill, where Santiago was founded. Head to the San Francisco church (built in 1586), the second oldest church in Chile. Visit the Paris-Londres neighborhood with its cobble stone streets and renovated mansions, reminiscent of the Latin Quarter in Paris, France. Make stops at the Presidential Palace, La Moneda, La Bolsa, Plaza de Armas, and Metropolitan Cathedral.

Explore Mercado Central, a historic landmark designed by Gustave Eiffel (best known for the Eiffel Tower in Paris). The market is famed for delicious seafood and other traditional Chilean dishes. Take a funicular to the top of San Cristobal Hill where there is a great 360-degree panoramic view of Santiago and where you can see the famous statue of the Virgin Mary. End your exploration with a visit to the bohemian Lastarria neighborhood, lined with cafés, restaurants, small theaters, bookstores, and boutique shops.

Valdivia is the capital of the 14th Region de Los Rios. Located at the confluence of the Valdivia River, Calle Calle, CauCau and Cruces River, as well as bordering to the west with the Pacific Ocean. It is a beautiful city, like Venice, Italy due to the large number of channels that cross it.

The historical center hosts Fluval Fair and Paseo Costanera, in front of the Calle Calle River, where you can see the crafts and cuisine of the area. The Museo Municipal (Municipal Museum) is another attraction of the area, because of its beautiful architecture.

Valdivia also has a unique culture, with varied traditions and rooted identity, corresponding to a mixture of Mapuche customs with a strong European influence by Spanish and German immigrants who settled in the area. Another of their traditions is the production of craft beers, such as the ones that are elaborated in the German factory Kunstmann, which offers tours, and a restaurant where you can taste different flavors.

Head to Pucon to begin your Northern Patagonia exploration program.

Vira Vira offers a selection of guided explorations, including trekking, birdwatching, biking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and also immersive cultural experiences, like cheese making, and cooking classes. The lodge also offers a Mapuche experience, which is a visit to a local village to learn about the indigenous people.
