Discover Chile’s capitol brimming with history and culture, considered one of South America’s most modern metropolitan areas. Drive around Santa Lucia Hill, where Santiago was founded. Head to the San Francisco church (built in 1586), the second oldest church in Chile. Visit the Paris-Londres neighborhood with its cobble stone streets and renovated mansions, reminiscent of the Latin Quarter in Paris, France. Make stops at the Presidential Palace, La Moneda, La Bolsa, Plaza de Armas, and the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Explore Mercado Central, a historic landmark designed by Gustave Eiffel (best known for the Eiffel Tower in Paris). The market is famed for delicious seafood and other traditional Chilean dishes. Take a funicular to the top of San Cristobal Hill where there is a great 360-degree panoramic view of Santiago and where you can see the famous statue of the Virgin Mary. End your exploration with a visit to the bohemian Lastarria neighborhood, lined with cafés, restaurants, small theaters, bookstores, and boutique shops.
Fly to Punta Arenas, head to Torres del Paine National Park in majestic Patagonia.
Enjoy a free afternoon and evening to rest and relax from your day of traveling before your full program briefing.
This excursion is the best way to get to experience all aspects of Torres del Paine in the shortest amount of time. On this full-day excursion, we cross the entire park from east to west and it includes the opportunity to enjoy one leisurely hike to Laguna Azul. This walk takes in the full spectrum of the park’s flora and fauna, in company with various breathtaking views of the Paine Massif, surrounding lakes, rivers, waterfalls and countryside. This is a day for those seeking the ultimate view where there is never a dull moment.
Begin the day with a morning navigation across the wall of the mighty Glacier Grey. This nautical voyage takes us on a three-hour excursion of Grey Lake aboard a motorized catamaran, to witness the majesty of Glacier Grey from up-close.
Plan your own afternoon. After returning to Grey Beach from the navigation, you will have a choice of several scenic hikes including Mirador Ferrier, Mirador Condor or Laguna Azul.
Head out for a full day of activities. You can choose between an active day or a more relaxing day, depending on your desired level of activity. For an active option, we recommend the hike to the Base of the Towers, which is one of the most emblematic, spectacularly beautiful, and physically challenging hikes available in the national park that bears their name. For the easy-going option, you will have the choice of short and scenic hikes around the Park including Mirador Cuernos, and a few shorter hikes to different waterfalls, overlooks and other points of interest within the Park.
Total drive time this morning is about four to five hours, depending on road and weather conditions, with plenty of stops along the way to admire the views and stretch your legs. Enjoy a visit to Glaciarium Museum, for a one-of-a-kind experience in this state-of-the-art facility that places the Patagonian ice sheets in a natural and historical perspective.
There is both an active and an easy-going option available in the morning. The active option is a short ice hike atop the glacier known as the “Mini Trekking.” For the easy-going option, take an hour-long navigation across the southern arm of the glacier aboard a large motorized catamaran, offering both indoor and outdoor viewing areas to the massive ice wall of Perito Moreno. Enjoy a box lunch at the glacier before the afternoon activity.
Enjoy a leisurely one to two hour-long walk across the multi-level observation boardwalk in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier. This feat of engineering is the best way with which to appreciate this mammoth ice structure and its famous calving phenomenon.
On this two- to three-hour horseback ride, we will get a chance to ride through the Patagonian steppe and explore the shores of Lake Argentino. Our ride covers a variety of terrain including rolling pampas, lagoons, hills, and cattle trails.
The afternoon is free to explore on your own with optional half day excursions to choose from.
The drive is about three hours long, with stops along the way to admire the beautiful views as we approach the iconic Mt Fitz Roy. Arrive in time for lunch and then continue with a final one hour drive north to the shores of Lago del Desierto. Bid farewell to your jeep and board the boat to Aguas Arriba.
Plan your own days with included activities. Choose from daily treks and walks, boat trips and fly fishing. The idea is to explore trails of incredible beauty, with the advantage of being far from all but close to the lodge. Small valleys, creeks, glaciers, and waterfalls are added to the special and incredible activities offered. With Aguas Arriba, your adventure options have expanded and your exploration quest has a limit that only your imagination can define.
Fly to Buenos Aires. Spend a relaxing evening.
You will be introduced to the history, architecture, traditions, and unique features of this historic Buenos Aires neighborhood. Visit Recoleta Cemetery and hear fascinating tales about Evita Perón, the misfortune of Rufina Cambaceres, Tiburcia Dominquez’s miserly husband, and Admiral Brown. Stop by Pilar Basilica to admire its stunning architecture, then learn about the history of Recoleta Cemetery itself at the Recoleta Cultural Center and Old Monastery. See El Ateneo Grand Splendid, one of the biggest bookstores in South America and certainly the most luxurious. El Ateneo is as splendid as its name, and exudes Buenos Aires’s nostalgic elegance. See Bourdelle’s Monument to Alvear, then continue to the Palais de Glace, where the Argentine tango came of age. Learn about the history of tango before visiting the BA Design Center and Terraces, the National Library, and the National Fine Arts Museum.
A late checkout has been arranged so you can relax and freshen up before your departure flight from Argentina.
