Day 1: ARRIVE SANTIAGO

Welcome to Chile!

Your Family Journey begins in Santiago.

Discover Chile‘s capitol brimming with history and culture, considered one of South America’s most modern metropolitan areas. First enjoy a walking tour in downtown Santiago. Start with the Presidential palace, La Moneda. The palace, a model of 18th century colonial architecture, is one of Santiago’s most recognizable landmarks and a symbol of Chile’s political past and its famously turbulent history. Visit the Paris-Londres neighborhood with its cobble stone streets and renovated mansions, reminiscent of the Latin Quarter in Paris, France. Make stops at La Bolsa, Plaza de Armas, and Metropolitan Cathedral.

Explore Mercado Central, a historic landmark designed by Gustave Eiffel (best known for the Eiffel Tower in Paris). The market is famed for delicious seafood and other traditional Chilean dishes. Enjoy an ice cream and sopaipillas tasting during your stroll through the market.

Drive to San Cristobal Hill where you will take a funicular to the top to enjoy a great 360-degree panoramic view of Santiago and where you can see the famous statue of the Virgin Mary. End your exploration with a visit to the bohemian Lastarria neighborhood, lined with cafés, restaurants, small theaters, bookstores, and boutique shops.

Several excursions are offered for your stay including: Four-Wheel Drive Explorations, Walking and Hiking, Biking, Volcano Climbing, Horse Rides, Culture/Flora/Fauna, Stargazing and Night Excursions.

The Andes Mountains and the Domeyko Range glorify the area with their spectacular forms. More than eight volcanoes are visible from the hotel, two still active. Their peaks reach a height of nearly 21,000 feet (6,000m). The desert air is clear, and the light is magical. The Atacama Desert is one of the best places on the whole planet for stargazing, the night skies and the Milky Way are truly unforgettable. San Pedro de Atacama is at an altitude of 7,920 feet above sea level and is an oasis village fed by two rivers and surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, including the Andes Mountains, volcanoes, salt flats filled with flamingos, high plateau, grassy riverbeds, and salt encrusted caves.

Days 8-11: PUNTA ARENAS / PUERTO NATALES

Travel to Puerto Natales to begin your Patagonia adventure

Remota offers a portfolio of over 30 tours and excursions to the most representative areas of the region. Experience firsthand, every day, the natural and cultural beauty of Torres del Paine National Park – World Heritage Site as well as World Biosphere Reserve, and further afield to valleys, mountains, lakes, glaciers, rivers, and forests. Tours can be done by vehicle (4×4), horseback, bicycle, or walking, sailing the fjords; it all depends on the guests’ preference and the area you would like to visit.

The Ice Age left big depressions of sunken valleys and moraines left by the retrieving waters formed this unique landscape of amazing beauty known as Patagonia. This region of mountains (cordillera) contains rivers, lakes, a vast number of waterfalls, native forests, fjords, glaciers, archipelagos, and  Magellan steppes as well as islands and islets. Although Remota has the highest standards of service and comfort, the hotel does not define itself by stars. The concept of luxury for us is much more noble and generous and incorporates the rich environment where the property is located. All of Remota’s buildings are in perfect harmony with the environment and the local culture, from its well-recognized sustainable architecture, to the way that all the more than 30 excursions – offered daily – are restructured and created so that they cause minimum impact to the local ecosystem.
